Electronic Filing Services Are Taxpayers’ First Choice!

This tax season, the IRS has devised a plethora of useful virtual features to facilitate the taxpaying process greatly. Tara Lynn Wagner of NY1 reports as follows:

“Once again, it’s that time of year when people’s thoughts turn toward taxes. The good news is that help has arrived for all those persistent procrastinators, however.

In 2012, taxes will not be officially overdue until after April 17 – two days later than the traditional filing deadline. This is per IRS spokeswoman Dianne Besunder.

Ms. Besunder further advised that prompt filing yields correspondingly faster refund … Read the rest

Tax filing season has started and the documents you need should be in the mailbox soon. While the return is not due until April 17 this year, here are 10 tax tips to ensure you are ready to file.

1. Start gathering records now. This includes receipts, canceled checks and other supporting documents.

2. Watch for W-2s and 1099s. You will need them.

3. For answers to questions, look at the IRS website.

4. Use Free File. If your income was $57,000 or less you qualify for free file. You must access this service trough www.irs.gov. The IRS has collaborated … Read the rest

Your tax documents are very important documents that you may need to refer to way after the time you actually file your return. More importantly, the IRS may need to refer to these documents at some point in the future and you therefore need to make sure that you do not dispose of your tax documentation once you have filed your returns thinking that you will never need the documents again.

Whilst most people are aware that they need to keep their tax documents for a certain amount of time many are not sure how long they should keep … Read the rest

Doing your own taxes might seem like an easy enough thing to pull off. You just get your W-2 form, put in the numbers and you are good to go. However, there can be more to doing your taxes than just simple math, and even that can be hard to do for some people. While it might not be fun to have to pay someone to do your taxes, it can save you a lot of headaches down the line.

You Could Get The Numbers Wrong

Doing your own taxes means inputting your own information. If you have a … Read the rest

New rules set by the IRS have changed the time of automatic extensions. These rules affect estate, trust and partnership tax returns. Instead of the former six month tax filing extension, the new period is just five months. For most individual taxpayers the new rules will have little to no effect on filing date or individual taxpayer extensions.

The filing options with an extension for these entities was a six month period. However, the new rules have reduced the amount of time allowed by one month.

In the past, the extension only required the filing of a single form … Read the rest

Just about everyone fears a tax audit from the IRS, but why? If you haven’t done anything wrong, there may really be no reason to fear such an inspection of your financial matters. Maybe this fear comes from the knowledge that we aren’t always sure we’re doing our taxes correctly in the first place. Maybe it comes from the fact that the tax code is so bloated with exceptions, exemptions, and deductions, that it leaves most us wondering if we indeed have a clue as to what we are doing when we fill in those simple looking tax forms that … Read the rest

When you get into debt with the IRS it’s not a happy time. There’s stress and more stress as you worry about how you’re going to pay the income tax debt. There’s a lot of uncertainty too about what your options are and what kind of penalties you might incur. As I said, it’s not a happy time.

Fortunately, all is not bleak. The IRS is surprisingly reasonable when it comes to paying back your tax debt. They in fact allow you to enter into a repayment agreement to do just that.

Now there’s not a lot of … Read the rest

FreeTaxUSA is Just as Effective as a Paid Tax Service

For a company that offers their services at absolutely no charge, it might seem surprising that FreeTaxUSA is every bit as effective as any other paid tax services. Regardless of whether you are doing a simple tax return and efiling, or if you are handling more complicated tax returns involving self employment, the purchase or sale of a home, marriage, divorce, or Earned Income Credit (just to name a few), FreeTaxUSA can effectively handle and simplify the process for you while still ensuring the maximum return possible.
